We thought that cobras only lived in Africa and Asia, but the owner assured us that this one is a rare South American type. It was in the midst of moulting so he did not do the usual show. When snakes moult, their eyes get cloudy and they cannot see well, so their reactions are a little different. According to the man, just like the tiger, as long as you do not threaten food, territory or family, even snakes will leave you alone. (In our experience with rattlesnakes on our patio, he is right. They do seem to want to go the other way when people come around.) However, I have absolutely no desire to get this close to a cobra. |
