They are all pretty much standard.
The Buffet King SpoerleinsSpoerleinsSpoerleins
This is a large Chinese restaurant with an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for $5.95 during the week and $6.95 on weekends. They have a huge selection and include Chinese, American, and Mexican food.
KFC If you haven’t tried the Triple Crunch yet, you are missing a very good sandwich.
Mimi’s SpoerleinsSpoerleinsSpoerleinsSpoerleins
We used to eat at Mimi’s up in Phoenix and loved their breakfasts. We were pretty pleased to find them in Tucson also. For lunch and dinner, they don’t impress us much, but at breakfast, they are outstanding. Their decor is New Orleans (New Awlins) style and their food kind of follows suit. The portions are gigantic and they serve some huge muffins. We never eat the muffins, but bring them home and have them for breakfast the next day. If you try to eat a muffin and the breakfast, you’d explode. The servers are almost always extremely friendly and efficient and we go there often.
Chuy’s Mesquite Broiler Spoerleins
We felt like something grilled one evening and Mexican seemed like a good idea so we tried Chuy’s. There are numerous locations in Tucson, but they all seem to have the same style. They are kind of a cross between the local bar and a California Mexican place. Not really our type of place and the food was just OK. We probably won’t go back.
Voyager Restaurant SpoerleinsSpoerleins
The restaurant at The Voyager is not bad. They serve typical American fare and have a special every day. We have eaten there for lunch a couple times and we get their carryout fries or onion rings when we cook burgers. If you are staying in the park, they are a pretty good deal. They do a “frequent eater” card. After so many meals there, you get one free. Also not a bad deal.
The Arizona Pizza Company SpoerleinsSpoerleinsSpoerleins
On the night that we went for the moonlight ride in Sabino Canyon, we stopped at this restaurant to have pizza. Their pizza was excellent. We would definitely go there again if we stayed in Tucson. Although they are quite a distance from the Voyager, if we went back to Sabino, we would eat there again.
Grocery Cart
Groceries
Frys, Bashas, Albertsons, and Safeway As usual, Frys is the biggest store, Safeway has the friendliest people, Albertsons is fairly expensive (but carries some of our important staples), and Bashas has more obscure items. We don’t shop Abco very often so we don’t know much about them.
Wild Oats Wild Oats is the largest health food store we have seen in any state. There is one in Tucson, and several more in Phoenix.
Sam’s and Costco We used to be members at Sam’s, but since we are closer to Costco now, we signed up at Costco.
Other Misc Stores Fabric stores and Super KMart The differences between cities is very interesting. I do a fair amount of sewing and had a bit of trouble finding fabric stores in Phoenix. I don’t remember seeing any in Cottonwood, but in Tucson, they are everywhere. They also have Super KMarts which include the standard KMart items and a full grocery store. They call it a “Big Box” store.
